Pressure treated decks

Key Features: Entry level, long lasting, cheap.
Pros/Cons: Can be prone to cracking, splitting warping as the wood as chemicals dry out.

Knotty Cedar

Key Features: Still has PT Joist framing. Good looking, has a naturally to resistant to rot and fungi. More stable than pressure treated (PT), twice the price of pressure treated (PT).
Pros/Cons: Soft can dent easy, grain can lift, still needs staining and maintenance.


Key Features: Azek decking, child friendly, 3 to 4 times the price of pressure treated (PT) but will last for a very long time.
Pros/Cons: A man made product that offers virtually maintained free deck. Stain resisdent, scratch resident mold and mildew resident. Durableand long lasting, impervious to insects and moisture. No splinters, .imited warranty.
Can still scuff and scratch a little and be warm to bear feet.

Exotic Woods

Key Features: 3 to 4 times the price of pressure treated (PT) but does require regular oiling to keep the rich color or will fade to silver
Pros/Cons: Ipe, Tiger wood, Kayu, these woods are very dense and are virtually impervious  to rot and termites.
At least 5 times stronger than cedar and has a fire rating that similar to concrete or steel.
